A giant size (30 inches high by 60 inches wide) hosta, this cultivar of unidentified parentage (H. 'Fortunei Gigantea background) which was registered by Peter and Jean Ruh of Ohio in 2003 on behalf of the originator, Heinz Klose of Staudengärtnerei Klose in Germany. It has blue-green foliage which has a bloom on the bottom and smooth texture. Lavender flowers bloom in July on long scapes up to 50 inches in height.

According to The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "...Refer to the comments under 'Hercules' for more about the confusing situation that these cultivars present...has also been sold as 'Old Hercules'..."

In Greek mythology, Hercales was the son of the god, Zeus. The Roman name was Hercules or Kerkules.
