A sport of H. 'Allan P. McConnell', this cultivar was registered by Ron Snyder of Minnesota in 1998. It has leaves with a white marginal variegation and a streaked center. The mound is small to medium size with lavender flowers in August.

According to The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "Plants of 'Shades of Mercy' at Creative Gardens, where it was developed, have all reverted to 'Allan P. McConnell'."
